Mwahenga further said the demonstration provided a platform for people to share knowledge on making nutritious foods from locally grown crops such as sweet potatoes, beans, groundnuts and vegetables.

“The knowledge people have acquired will help them for a long time. I will continue to support projects that enhance people’s well-being,” he said.

On her part, Norwegian Church Aid and DanChurchAid (NCA/DCA) nutrition specialist Tiyezge Kalima said

the demonstration sought to show people the importance of eating a balanced diet comprising six food groups.

“It is important for people to eat nutritious food to be healthy so that they can contribute towards the country’s development,” he said.

The project’s promoter Temwa Munyenyembe said people have established backyard gardens where they grow vegetables and fruits.

She also said they keep livestock such as chickens and goats to achieve a balanced diet.

The communities displayed doughnuts made from sweet potatoes, rice porridge and juice made from sweet potato leaves, among others.
